After months of testing, here are my findings on rendering Malayalam text correctly across browsers: 1) Use Manjari or Rachana for body text, 2) Set proper line-height (1.8-2.0), 3) Use font-feature-settings for proper conjunct rendering. Full write-up coming to the Malayalam Typography repo.

Kerala's libraries have thousands of palm leaf manuscripts that are deteriorating. I fine-tuned a vision transformer on 5000 labeled images of old Malayalam script. The model now achieves 87% character accuracy on manuscripts from the 16th century. The model weights are open-source.
Created a CSS color system based on Kathakali face paint colors — Pachcha (green/noble), Kathi (green+red/anti-hero), Thaadi (red/demonic), Minukku (satin/feminine), Kari (black/forest). Each maps to semantic design tokens. Would love feedback before publishing as an npm package.
